Life Membership.
I was touched to receive my honorary Life Membership and to hear the kind words bestowed by Ross at the AGM. Although we are not doing a very good job of organising a succession of up-coming leaders, we must be thankful that we still have such a wonderful group of members who are prepared to put their hands up and organise outings and fill their cars each time, adding to the camaraderie and friendliness of the group. Each one of us gets something different from the group. I would like to thank field nat friends for your patience and care towards me as I reluctantly withdraw from many of the walks. I love it when a member returns from a walk with something special for me. Thank you everyone.
Next outing September 14th Cape Portland – Hunting for orchids.
Thank you, Claudia, for taking the initiative and organising this outing. You’ll notice it’s not on the usual month; we planned it so we might get to see orchids. Have a look at your references so you know what we’re looking for: Thelymitra antennifera [rabbit ears], Caladenia patersonii [a spider orchid] Prasophyllum apoxychilum [ a leek orchid] Cyrtostylis robusta [a gnat orchid].
The Identiflight Equipment, which we heard about on our last two visits, is in operation now and we’ll get to see it working. There’ll also be a beach walk on a very shelly beach.
Then at the end of the activity, we’ll go to the stone house for a barbeque and those who want, can stay the night and fish, walk, chat, read, sleep etc.. Bring everything you need if staying + food to share if barbequing.
Meet at the Substation at 10am. If the weather is inclement we can still use the stone house and have a relaxing day reading books from the reference library, eating and drinking, playing scrabble [Pam] and perhaps having that discussion that was cut short at the end of the AGM.
Future Program
As a result of a call-out at the AGM, we are organised enough to have our outings planned until Christmas. Thanks everyone.
So October will be a return to Anson’s Bay with Jenny as host.
In November we will explore the rainforest on the foothills of Mt. Arthur, and in December Mike will lead the outing he was unable to lead last year. That will be an in-depth look at a section of coastline at Bridport.
Après AGM.
2 wine glasses with VERY thin stems and a white Corningware mug were left at my place and I’d like to return them. Let me know if they’re yours.
Northeast Park
Ross and Jay are working on the N.E.Park Project and if you read last week’s Advertiser you would have seen they are not alone. The Lions Club is on a similar mission. These people indicated they would help if they could: Chris, Debbie S, Jenny Bic, Myles, Mike, Ian – if there are any others reading this bulletin who wish to go on the list, please let Ross know. Documentary 27th September.
I read about this documentary in the e-news of the Central North Field Nats. It looks interesting.
Mt Cameron Invitation
The St Helens Walking Group is celebrating Alex Buchanan’s and Sandi McKenzie’s birthdays at the Mt. Cameron Field Study Centre on the last weekend of September 2024. The NE Field Nats are invited to join the group at the centre. Members of the group will be walking to the summit of Mt. Cameron on Saturday 28th, leaving the Centre at 10 am.
Average to good fitness required. Attendees should pay special attention to footwear, warm waterproof clothing and food and water.
Saturday night will be a shared meal and birthday celebrations. The more the merrier! NE Field Nats would be most welcome! $25 if you wish to stay the night.
Liaise with Me [Lou] if intending to go.
Just a thought……
If you have space in your car, it’s a good time to offer someone a lift to a F.N. outing. Maybe there’s a person who needs uplifting, or a person who has shown an interest in F.N.’s, even your next door neighbour or a work-mate.
Spread the love…. Share the fun !!
